Head of Research

As one of New Zealand’s most popular attractions, with visionary new leadership and ambitious plans to increase the accessibility of its collections to Aucklanders and visitors to the city, there has never been a better time to join this cultural icon of Auckland.

Auckland War Memorial Museum's recent announcement to establish a virtual Research Centre is a key step in positioning its curatorship and collections to contribute to the active scholarship and research interests of others. Our next step is to recruit a lively Head of Research who can use their experience and initiative to identify opportunities; build external partnerships; and bring new research projects to fruition.

To help us make good progress with getting things in place we are seeking a dynamic, well-connected researcher or experienced research officer to take up a part time, two year fixed-term role as Head of Research.

This role will suit an experienced researcher who understands research funding agencies and mechanisms and commands respect within the research community. They will be a thought-leader, committed to serving the public; and to ensuring that the collections of the Museum are the focal point of the Research Centre. The Head of Research is expected to be proactive, professional and positive in all communications. Superior verbal and written communication skills, and strong analytical, planning and time management skills will ensure success in this role.

Auckland War Memorial Museum is committed to a bi-cultural approach. An understanding of the application of the tenets of the Treaty of Waitangi is essential and competence in Te Reo is desirable.
