This sampler was made in 1888 by Agnes Lawson. It is one of three samplers in Te Papa's collections made by two sisters, Jeanie and Agnes Lawson, who attended Kilconquhar School in Fife, Scotland. Acknowledgement: Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

Welcome to the first online issue of Te Ara –  Journal of Museums Aotearoa.  As with the print editions produced from 2002 to 2006, Te Ara provides an exciting window into New Zealand’s museum and art gallery communities.  It will continue to offer professional perspectives, theory, practice, debate, refereed articles and reviews.  Please enjoy this issue.
