Founded in 1882, the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts is an incorporated society dedicated to the promotion, creation, understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts. Many of the country’s finest Artists have been a part of the Academy’s journey over the last 127 years.
This is a wonderful opportunity for an Executive who has the love, passion and commitment for the “Arts Field” to take responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day running of the Academy including Office and Exhibitions Management. You will therefore become fully immersed in arts networking, sponsorship, fundraising and financial management in order to grow the Academy’s funding base.
The position will support the President and Council in promoting the Academy within the wider community, proactively engaging with the Business/Arts Sectors and increasing corporate memberships and sponsorships.
Person Profile:

GALLERY COORDINATOR

Founded in 1882, the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts is an incorporated society dedicated to the promotion, creation, understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts. Many of the country’s finest Artists have been a part of the Academy’s journey over the last 127 years.
The Gallery Coordinator will ably assist the Academy Director with the day to day management of the Academy’s galleries with a primary focus on the sale of artworks.
You will be responsible for running the front desk, stocking the gallery shop (Gallery One) with saleable pieces, displaying the artworks in an attractive manner with customer appeal and responding to public enquiries relating to exhibitions, gallery hire and works for sale.
You will also recruit and train Academy Volunteers and work closely with them to handle the installation and removal of exhibitions, including the handling of artworks, security, cleaning and maintenance of the gallery.
Person Profile:
- Previous retail or sales experience
- A strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service
- A keen eye for detail with a high degree of accuracy
- The ability to problem solve, use initiative and display sound judgement
- An artistic flair with a good understanding of the visual arts
- Staff management experience would be advantageous.
Working arrangements are flexible, however you will be required to work 24 hours per week between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. There will be the occasional requirement to work outside of these hours.

OFFICE COORDINATOR

The Office Coordinator will ably assist the Academy Director with the day to day management of the Academy’s administrative functions including the production of accurate and timely financial information using MYOB.
In conjunction with professional IT support, you will be responsible for the set up and maintenance of appropriate administrative and accounting systems and processes. You will train and manage a volunteer workforce to use the computer and software systems to assist with the accounting and administrative processes.
General administrative tasks include the regular maintenance of the stakeholder database, customer surveys, and managing correspondence including mail-outs and the printing and distribution of the Academy newsletter.
Person Profile:
- An extensive background in office and financial administration
- Demonstrated skills in a range of IT applications, including MYOB or equivalent
- Very highly developed written and oral communications
- A keen eye for detail with a high degree of accuracy
- The ability to problem solve, use initiative and display sound judgement
- An artistic flair with a good understanding of the visual arts
- Staff management experience would be advantageous.
