Project Manager, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa
This key position within the experience project management team, will manage and deliver high-profile, short and long-term exhibition projects at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
In this position you will manage all aspects of project management, and procurement; including delivery teams, external contractors, as well as diverse stakeholder relationships, to ensure that exhibitions, and products, are delivered within Te Papa’s standards, policies and guidelines, and visitor experience and satisfaction targets.
The successful applicant will possess:
- Proven project management experience and a successful track record in the delivery of projects on time and to budget
- An ability to build relationships at all levels, internal and external to Te Papa
- Excellent communication, facilitation and negotiation skills.
The following are highly desirable for the position:
- Experience in development of exhibitions and/or projects with iwi and other community groups
- Ability to converse in Te Reo
- Having an understanding of Maori concepts
- Relevant project management qualifications or training – PMI or Prince 2.

Manager, Heritage Operations, Ministry for Culture & Heritage
The Ministry for Culture and Heritage Te Manatū Taonga provides advice to government on cultural matters. We fund and support several of the nation’s iconic cultural institutions including Te Papa, the New Zealand Film Commission, TVNZ, the NZSO and Te Matatini. We also produce award-winning websites including Te Ara - the New Zealand encyclopedia - and the 28th Māori Battalion and NZHistory websites. We administer significant heritage sites such as war graves and the National War Memorial.
This position sits within the Ministry’s Heritage Services Branch and reports to the DCE/Heritage Services Branch Manager. The role is responsible for leading the Heritage Operations Team to support the Ministry’s engagement with the heritage sector, including support for a Heritage Forum and oversight of specific heritage matters.
This includes responsibility for national monuments, historic graves and war graves; administering the Protected Objects Act, the Flags, Emblems and Names Protection Act and the Waitangi Day Commemorations Fund; managing the Regional Museums Policy Fund and museum and collecting agency initiatives; contributing to the development of Taonga Tūturu protocols and working with Māori heritage groups on matters arising through the protocols.The position will also oversee work relating to special projects.
It is expected that the successful applicant will have a strong understanding of, and empathy for, heritage sector work.

We are seeking a senior public policy and/or heritage sector manager to lead a team advising Ministers on policy advice and legislation to protect and provide access to New Zealand’s heritage places, museum and art collections andtaonga.
Reporting to the DCE/Cultural Policy Branch Manager, you will also assist in shaping the Ministry's approach to issues such as demonstrating the value and contribution of heritage and culture to New Zealand's economy, and how best to support a vibrant and viable cultural sector.
To be successful in this role you will have significant senior level experience in leading public policy development, a relevant post graduate qualification and demonstrated expertise and knowledge of heritage sector institutions and critical issues, including Treaty and Māori interests. You will also have the ability to lead and energise others, and to facilitate collaborative approaches to making things happen.
